Mellow Flow is Om Factory’s answer to a Restorative Aerial Yoga Practice. Developed over the past three years by Kevin Bigger and his students, this technique uses an aerial hammock rigged rather close to the ground as a tool to create sacred space in the body, mind and spirit. In any given class, yoga poses inspired by yin and restorative yoga are blended with gentle flowing sequences, a little yogic philosophy and some practical applications of pranayama and meditation.
In the morning, we’ll explore backward extension and chest openers; after lunch, we’ll move towards forward extension and hip openers. Along the way, we’ll discuss class sequencing strategies, useful pose modifications and relevant hands-on assists. This immersion is perfect for yoga teachers looking to explore a new modality, as well as students who want to spoil themselves with the most relaxing day ever.
Pre-requisites: Students should ideally at least some familiarity with aerial fabric. Please reach out if you have any concerns.
Bio: Kevin Bigger started practicing yoga in his late teens, immediately after a period of massive (less than healthy) weight loss, and just before he (finally) came out of the closet. During the struggle to adapt to a new physical and emotional reality, yoga provided a pathway to organize the chaos. Over the past decade plus of study, the practice has continued to be his saving grace.
Kevin completed his first teacher training with Boston’s Radiant Yoga School (Chanel Luck and Bonnie Argo). In New York, he has been whipped into proper shape by Schuyler Grant and all of the rad teachers at Kula Yoga Project and is currently studying with Nikki Costello. In addition to teaching Vinyasa and Aerial Yoga at the studio, Kevin is a lead instructor for Om Factory School of Yoga’s Vinyasa and Aerial Yoga Teacher Training Programs. He teaches with the hope that his offering affords students the same healing opportunities he’s received from his teachers.
